Today we welcomed back Valerie Lisnyak to the Neumann lab! Valerie previously completed a Summer Research Scholarship project with us and is returning to the lab for the next three months for an Action in Developmental Biology Research Project - a program for high achieving students as part of her undergraduate DEV3990 course.
Valerie will be working as part of the CMT team in the lab, on a project entitled: Can enhanced microtubule acetylation prevent CMT-like phenotypes? Congratulations to Simran and Ming on the acceptance of their Journal Club article into The Journal of Neuroscience!!
Their article, entitled "Presynaptic Deficits at Neuromuscular Junctions: A Specific Cause and Potential Target of Axonal Neuropathy in Type 2 Charcot–Marie–Tooth Disease" is a review of the paper by Spaulding et al. 2016. As described by The Journal of Neuroscience, the Journal Club articles are short, critical reviews of recent papers, written exclusively by graduate students or postdoctoral fellows that summarize the important findings of the paper and provide additional insight and commentary. This week we welcome Nethmi into the lab on a Monash Winter Research Scholarship. Nethmi will be with us for four weeks to gain some valuable hands on laboratory experience.
Her project will focus on genetic modifiers of Charcot-Marie-Tooth disease. Today we welcome Ming Soh to our lab! She is the first postdoc to join the Neumann Lab.
Ming completed her PhD in Joe Lynch's lab at The University of Queensland, and you can find out more about her from her profile page. Welcome Ming! Michelle Wong has officially been accepted by Monash University as a candidate for the Doctor of Philosophy.
Congratulations Michelle! The Genetics Society of America selected Brent for their latest 'New Faculty Profile' feature. As described by the GSA, these "Showcase GSA members who are establishing their first independent labs".
The profile can be viewed here: http://genestogenomes.org/new-faculty-profile-brent-neumann/?utm_content=bufferf5340&utm_medium=social&utm_source=twitter.com&utm_campaign=buffer Today we welcome Dean Fontbin to the Neumann lab! Dean will be with us for the next three months completing a Research in Action in Biomedical Science project - a program for high achieving students - as part of his undergraduate DEV3990 course.
Dean will be working closely with Zehra Abay on a project entitled: cellular and molecular mechanisms of axonal regeneration. Monash University has prepared a media release for Brent's publication in Cell Reports. The release can be found here:

Michelle will be with us for the next two months to learn the basics of using C. elegans in the lab and to get familiar with the field of research before starting her PhD with us to study nervous system degeneration.
